General Information
Talk about the Arab world and a myriad images crop up – a
land of mystique, high-excitement horse and camel races, swaying
date palms, world-class golf tournaments, lazy sand beaches,
towering glass high-rises, desert adventures and expansive
shopping complexes.
The region also boasts yet another passion – motorsports.
The keenly fought car rallies held throughout the year in
major Arab cities are testimony to this thriving passion,
with great excitement generated with every sporting event.
From grueling desert challenges and wadi bashing adventures
to thrilling gravel races – perhaps no other region in the
world has explored so many different ways and diverse terrain
to appeal to the growing community of motorsports fanatics
here. |
Come April 2004, the region will
also be firmly put on the world motoring map when the Arab
world hosts its first Formula One race, with top international
rally drivers in attendance. In fact, all world attention
will be on Bahrain when names such as Michael Schumacher contest
for the top honors in a closely fought battle of man, machine
and skill.
The German state of Bavaria shares many attributes with the
Arab world – pristine natural wonders, the thrill of sport
excitement, panoramic views, culinary delights and welcoming
hospitality. Traditionally too, Germany and the Middle East
have enjoyed close political and business relations.
It is therefore appropriate to bring to this region the Gulf
Bavarian Classic Car Rally, a rare 1400-km motorsports
extravaganza that will start off in Abu Dhabi (UAE) pass through
the scenic country of the Oman and will finish in Dubai. Beginning
on November 21nd, 2004, the event will witness
some of the proud owners of vintage cars in the Arab world
parading their expensive collections through the region.
This event is the result of months of close cooperation between
the organizers of the Gulf Bavarian Classic Car Rally
and the automobile clubs of the participating countries |

Quick Facts about the Rally:
- The Gulf Bavarian Classic Car Rally is divided into two
broad categories – Tourist & Sport – with participants
free to choose their preferred category. The Sport category
will consist of additional runs as well as hill-climbing.
While both categories take the same route, there will be
separate evaluation in each category for daily and overall
winners.
- In an effort to be different from other motoring events,
the rally combines fun, adventure and excitement – all in
a comfortable environment. Individual stages have been designed
to cover 200-400 km per day, ensuring that there are plenty
of sightseeing opportunities as well.
- The rally is set to attract high media attention worldwide
since top local motoring personalities and their teams have
already confirmed their participation in this prestigious
event.
- Accompanying the organizers during the race will be the
DSF – Motorvision Classic TV team as well as local television
and radio stations. Maximilian Engert, the well-known host
of the German nationwide Motorvision Classic Program on
DSF, will conduct the presentations at the start and finish
lines of the daily stages.
- The rally season has been chosen in such a way that neither
the drivers nor their cars are exposed to extreme temperatures
– a comfortable 30 degree Celsius during the day and a pleasant
16 degree Celsius at night-time.
- Escort vehicles, comprising technical and medical teams,
with highly trained personnel will supervise the rally to
ensure that the event is smoothly organized and are at hand
to support you at all times.
- All cars are accorded complete security at all overnight
stopovers, despite the fact that crime is literally non-existent
in the countries hosting the rally.
- English and Arabic are the most popular languages in the
Arab world, hence an average knowledge of English is sufficient
to communicate with the local population.
